How I Overcame Harassment in France

Guest Post by Shelly Enright

Voyaging to new lands is never easy.

When I first moved to the south of France, I had to get used to a lot of new things.

Between the customary cheek kisses upon greeting someone, buying a fresh baguette everyday, and having to find ways to pass the time until the drunk couple fighting in the street cools down so I can leave my apartment and go to class, the hardest thing to adjust to is what it’s like to walk down the street. Unexpected Pit Stops: Culture and Koi Fish in Tainan

Biking around Tainan City last week, we happily stumbled upon the colorful, historical Chihkan Tower. Also known as Fort Provintia, Chihkan Tower was once a Dutch outpost. Then, it was destroyed by an earthquake, leaving behind a ghostly glimpse of a staircase in a hidden underground room. This cultural monument has intruiging remnants of aboriginal times and is a worthy short afternoon stop (it’s also supposedly gorgeous at night).

New Boyish Chic challenge: How to make the most of a limited wardrobe

Thinking about ideas for Boyish Chic lately, I’ve realized it’s taken on a new spin: Eric and I have been faced with the challenge of looking stellar while living out of a backpack. Sometimes, it’s more difficult than it sounds (like when I get tired of the same things and start to miss the hell out of my closet back home). But, styling a limited wardrobe has also been a fun experiment in making the best out of what little we have and finding out how many different ways we can wear the same thing without looking like we don’t do laundry.

Our daily backpack: what to bring for a day of adventure.

Eric and I have gotten into a routine of what to bring each day while we venture around cities and beaches on our southeast Asia trip. We’ve decided on a backpack because it’s easiest to carry, distributes weight well, carries a lot, and works for riding scooters, walking in the rain, or just being out and about.

For a daily adventure, on average, here’s what we pack: Continue reading Our daily backpack: what to bring for a day of adventure.

Must See Taiwan Flower Market + How to Make a DIY Recycled Vase

The Jianguo Flower Market was an absolute breath of fresh air, especially as an escape from the rainy Saturday we were having in Taipei. Note that it’s a weekend market, so head over on a Saturday or Sunday and be prepared for a large crowd – don’t worry, it’s smaller than most & it’s totally worth it.

Why is this a must see Taiwanese market? Continue reading Must See Taiwan Flower Market + How to Make a DIY Recycled Vase

It’s been real, Thailand. Our visa is up and we are headed to Taipei, Taiwan. Bring on the cafes, the zoo, and panda shaped bread! Promise.

Here’s a preview of the awesomeness that’s to come for our Taipei trip & some of our must see adventure time spots coming up in this week’s posts: Continue reading Peace out, Thailand! A preview of our adventure time in Taipei, Taiwan.

We Dig vs. We’d Ditch: Klong Prao Beach, Koh Chang

We pretty much adored every part of our trip to Klong Prao Beach on the beautiful island of Koh Chang. Not yet as touristy as what we’d experienced in Bali, Koh Chang truly captured our hearts. We would have stayed longer had our visa allowed, but alas, it’ll remain a brief, wonderous stint in time – like the summer fling you never want to forget.
